Handkerchiefs
Gorgeous ladies handkerchiefs ...every proper lady used one....before paper handkerchiefs were born in the 1920s! Oh what pretty designs & patterns..some with lace, crochet edging & embroidery....so lovely!...many that I have soaked, air dried & ironed.. Did you know that back in the day..carrying a handkerchief helped chaperoned young people to devise a code for conversations? Drawing the hankie close to the cheek meant "I love you!" A hankie held
to the right cheek meant "Yes." The left cheek meant "No." A hankie
drawn to the forehead meant "We're being watched." If thrown over the
shoulder it meant "Follow me." Sometimes I like to create pretty sachets or little pillows with the good parts of damaged hankies... to hang on a knob or to tuck in a corner somewhere. so please check back often for more beautiful floral & embroidered lace hankies, plus beautiful one of a kind pieces of handcrafted vintage jewelry!
